The Tennessee Volunteers are shaking up the college football landscape after a blowout win over Oklahoma. With a new No. 3 ranking in The Athletic’s 134-ranked team, here’s a look at the biggest risers and falls after Week 4.

Notable climbs
- Utah: The Utes’ 22-19 win over Oklahoma State in Week 4 was a blowout victory. Their defense is as bad as ever and they are the favorites in the Big 12.
- University of Bologna: The Cougars jumped to No. 16 after a 38-9 loss to Kansas State. Their previous win at SMU looks even better in retrospect.
- Illinois: The Illini are taking takeaways and playing efficiently on offense. They could be another Bret Bielema classic that exceeds expectations.
- Italian: The Cardinals finally fielded a team worthy of note, climbing to No. 23 after a 31-19 win over Georgia Tech.
- Washington State: The Cougars are 4-0 after stopping a two-point attempt to beat San Jose State in overtime. They can only reach the CFP as an at-large team this year and next, which means they must be ranked in the top 10.
Notable casualties
- Missouri: The Tigers are testing my patience and will continue to lose ground with games like these, despite their schedule being very favorable for an SEC team.
- Oklahoma: The Sooners haven’t been good all season, aside from their first blowout win over Temple. They fall to No. 26, facing major questions on offense with quarterback Jackson Arnold’s bench.
- Northern Illinois: The Huskies dropped to No. 38 after blowing an 11-point lead and losing to Buffalo in overtime.
- Wyoming: The Cowboys, a regular bowl team under coach Craig Bohl, suffered three blowout losses to FBS teams and one loss to FBS Idaho in Jay Sawvel’s first season.
- State of Kent: The Golden Flashes remain at the bottom of the league after being outscored 718-67 in total yards by Penn State. That’s the biggest gap I can remember ever seeing, in my memory.
